Who We Serve

Florida's Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) oversees a statewide service delivery system designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities and their families — including social, medical, behavioral, residential, and therapeutic supports that promote well-being and quality of life.

Eligibility

To be eligible for APD services, an individual must have a developmental disability (as defined in section 393.063(11), Florida Statutes) that occurred before age 18 and constitutes a substantial handicap expected to continue indefinitely. Disabilities served by APD include:

  • Intellectual disabilities (Full Scale IQ of 70 or below)
  • Severe forms of autism
  • Spina bifida cystica or myelomeningocele
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Down syndrome
  • Phelan-McDermid syndrome
  • Children ages 3–5 at high risk for a developmental disability

Our Services

Three APD-approved services, each tailored to the unique needs and goals of the individuals we support.

Personal Supports

Personal Supports assist individuals with daily living activities while fostering independence, safety, and confidence at home and in the community. Our caregivers support hygiene, mobility, meal preparation, and basic routines so individuals can live more comfortably and securely.

What we provide
Hands-on assistance with hygiene, mobility, meals, and daily routines — always encouraging independence and dignity.
Why it matters
Personal Supports help reduce caregiver stress, promote inclusion, and ensure individuals receive safe, respectful assistance tailored to their needs.

Life Skills Development (Companion)

Life Skills Development helps individuals build independence and confidence by teaching essential daily skills — communication, social interaction, household tasks, and personal organization. We provide compassionate guidance that encourages growth, dignity, and greater self-reliance.

What we provide
Guidance with social interaction, daily routines, and skill-building activities to promote independence.
Why it matters
Developing life skills helps individuals feel more confident, connected, and capable of managing their own lives.

Respite Care

Respite Care offers temporary relief for family caregivers who support loved ones at home. Whether for a few hours or several days, individuals continue receiving quality care while caregivers rest, recover, or attend to personal needs — with peace of mind, dignity, and consistency.

What we provide
Short-term or temporary care by trained professionals, covering personal assistance, supervision, and companionship as needed.
Why it matters
Respite Care prevents caregiver burnout, strengthens family support, and ensures individuals receive continuous, reliable care at home.
